The delegation of US Congressional Representatives met with the leaders of some opposition parties in Geogia and discussed all topical issues, the opposition leaders said after the meeting held in Tbilisi Marriot today.
The leader of the Republican Party Davit Usupashvili told journalists after the meeting that his party reiterated approval of Georgia`s participation in the international peacekeeping missions.
`But at the same time, we emphasized that this approval should not grant Georgia government priviledges while discussing democratic development of the country,` Usupashvili said.
Kakha Shartava, the leader of the National Forum, said he pointed to the necessity of change of electoral environment at that meeting. He said there are preconditions for improving election legislation. He said the international community and Georgian society should express their protest if the reform is not carried out.
The leader of the Conservative Party Kakha Kukava said he handed over the documents of the so-called political prisoners to the congressmen and reported the violations, of which the opposition accused the government, including the pressure on media.
None of the congressmen made comments for media after the meeting. (“Rustavi2”)
